Highlights from the Annual Retreat 2013

This year’s retreat was held in Boston, MA from February 1st-2nd. Over 120 students from more than 15 colleges attended to learn more about running Christian journals on their campus, and to hear speakers John Lennox and Michael Lindsay discuss faith, vocation, and the academy. Here’s what several participants had to say about their experience:
“It’s not about the journal” is an utterance I will never forget. If the goal is clear (getting thoughtful people… on a university campus to think more deeply about the intersection of faith and reason), then everything else should follow, even down to the superconcrete level of laying out the magazine. The repeated emphasis on how important it is to have a successor and to have people who really care and are committed to the vision was also a take-away. “It’s about the people” could be another important way to put this. –Princeton student, class of 2013
I think our staff was very much encouraged and imprinted with a strong vision for the coming year. We were all ready and willing to engage throughout and encourage each other in what we thought one another might bring to the table moving forward. –Brown student, class of 2013
It was great to see how other publications were dealing with some of the same struggles that we have, such as trying to get publications out to a wider audience/trying to spur more discussion/getting responses and feedback. –Princeton student, class of 2014
I was just encouraged and excited by the number of other fledgling would-be publications trying to get off the ground, and to see that our presence and growth at the Ichthus can encourage them. –Harvard student, class of 2015
